Galapagos islands

Situated roughly 1000km off the coast of Ecuador in South America, the Galapagos Islands are one of the most exquisite destinations for viewing and learning about our planet’s unique wildlife. As a volcanic Archipelago, there are a number of islands and breath-taking natural attractions to visit and explore, including the observation station of Charles Darwin, which allowed him to formulate his theory of Evolution.

Galapagos Cruise Types

Many of the cruises that head out to the Galapagos Islands will be on smaller, more intimate expedition type vessels. Celebrity Cruises offer three vessels for exploring the Galapagos Islands, the Xploration, Xperience and Xpedition cruise ships. Itineraries range from 7 to 16 nights, each one with their own highlights and major experiences that you won’t forget anytime soon.

Main attractions of the Galapagos Islands

The Galapagos Islands are one of the planet’s natural gems and a haven of activity that will set any nature lover’s heart fluttering. Some of the wildlife species found here are only present in the Galapagos. With beautiful beaches and adventure around every corner, the Galapagos offer something for every adventurer.

Charles Darwin Research Station

At the southern end of the Isla Santa Cruz is the Charles Darwin Research Station, which today continues with its research and preservation in the Archipelago. There is also a visitor’s centre where guests can examine exhibitions, ask questions and learn more about the spectacular natural world of the Galapagos.

Tortuga Bay

Tortuga Bay is a spectacular, white sandy beach only a short way from the Charles Darwin Research Centre. With only a hotel or two on its shores, the beach is often deserted except for a few holiday makers. Swim in the crystal clear water of this natural paradise, laze on the near perfect beach in Tortuga Bay and keep your eyes open for turtles and seals.

Floreana Island

Visit Floreana Island and experience the untouched natural beauty of this special place. Spend the day swimming, snorkelling and watching the sea turtles, sea lions and marine Iguanas go about their daily business.

Since Charles Darwin arrived in the Galapagos archipelago on the Beagle in the earlier part of the 19th century, people have been fascinated by its treasures. A haven for unique wildlife and natural beauty, the Galapagos should be on every adventurer and nature lover’s bucket list.
